The Rules of Attraction by Khardine Gray ARC review

The Rules Of AttractionThe Rules Of Attraction by Khardine Gray

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Dream….Believe….Achieve….. those were the words that Alex Sullivan has tattooed on his chest, rules he lives by. He also had another set of rules, rules of attraction and he was waiting to finish writing when he found “the one” that made him want to finish the list. Summer Daniels is having one very craptastic life lately; she lost her father, her job, her boyfriend and best friend and moved to Chicago to start fresh. Could she dream, believe, achieve her best life with Alex Sullivan.

4.5/5 (a few spelling errors knocked it down a peg or so) The Rules of Attraction by Khardine Gray was a good read from start to finish. I loved the character development of each secondary character (and there were a few but not overwhelming) and some back stories for a couple secondary characters. Alex and Summer meet in a club and go back to his place for what was believed to be a one night stand. That meeting turns into so much more when after running out on him the morning after, Summer turns out to be Alex’s new law PA.

The story moves quickly shuffling between Alex and Summer getting to know one another and Alex’s work situation. He has always wanted to please his dad and now is his last chance to impress him enough to earn his rightful spot as Senior Executive once his dad retires. His final case is wearing him down as his gut is telling him to not represent this long time family friend but if he doesn’t he risks alienating his father.

Summer and Alex are a good fit, with a little drama in the background involving Summer’s long time boyfriend thrown in, they show what a great team they make. I feel like I learned more about Alex overall even though it was written to be more of a Summer story. I received an advance copy without any expectation for review, all opinions expressed are my own. Start reading The Rules of Attraction today, and start making up your own list.

The Anti Cinderella by Tawdra Kandle ARC review

The Anti-CinderellaThe Anti-Cinderella by Tawdra Kandle

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Anti-Cinderella is the first book in a 3 book new series following the lead characters of Kyra Duncan and Prince Nicholas Windsor. This title is right up my alley as I am about as opposite of Cinderella as one could possibly get.

Kyra (not Keera) and Nicky are old friends having spent summer vacations together at the beach when they were young. Their grandmothers were old friends and that lent to many days spent together, sand castle competitions and first kisses. One summer Nicky stopped coming for his visits and just like that Kyra was back to reality.

Fast forward 10 years and Prince Nicky is all grown up and still as handsome as ever. Kyra has grown up too now focused on sustainability and getting the earth back to its natural state. Nicky has taken his “duties” into much the same avenues looking for ways to reduce food waste and make sure it gets back to the people who need the food to begin with. Their paths lead back to one another (with a little assist from Honey and Handsome (Ky’s grandparents) who help set up the reunion) and they find they still have some feelings toward each other. It was fun following along with all the self doubt that Kyra had as far as being able to fit in with the royal family. And also her not feeling like she measured up to who she thought someone like Nicky would want to be with.

This book was pretty fast in the feelings develop stages but I was glad to see the author took time to really explore not only the “mortal dates royalty” angle but also being in a long distance relationship. I enjoyed the secondary characters developed in this novel as well as knowing there would be at least 2 more books in the series hoping exploring how this Anti-Cinderella finds her footing in her new world.

Not many gripes reading through this except for Kyra’s name. Now personally I’ve known a few people with the name pronounced both Keera or Kyra, not knowing how to pronounce a main characters name is a pet peeve of mine. Now at the beginning Nicky calls her Ky which the lends to the (eye) pronunciation but it still throws me to read it. There is a scene in which she yells out to the paparazzi it wasn’t pronounced Keera so that helps. Anyway I’m sure it is petty on my part but it distracts me from enjoying what I’m reading 100% not knowing haha.

Overall another enjoyable read from Tawdra Kandle who I am fairly new to. I received an advance copy without any expectations for review, any and all opinions expressed are my own. Can’t wait for the next 2 chapters The Anti-Cinderella takes London and The Anti-Cinderella takes on the world.

Rainy Day Friends by Jill Shalvis ARC review

Rainy Day Friends (Wildstone, #2)Rainy Day Friends by Jill Shalvis

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Rainy Day Friends by Jill Shalvis is a Wildstone series book and of course another great one from this author. I loved the format of this book, and I really don’t think I’ve seen it before, of each page having an interaction between Lanie and her anxiety.

Lanie (Delaney) Jacobs is 30, starting a new job 2 ½ hours away from her old life and leaving everything behind (including her anxiety) for 2 months. Unfortunately her anxiety decides to come along for the ride. Lanie just lost her husband and what she finds out about her husband after his death would send anyone packing for a quick getaway. She agrees to take on a temporary job helping a family business re-brand their business and quickly finds herself in the middle of a real “Walton family” family.

Mark Capriotti is as rough and rugged as they come. He is an ex military man, an assistant sheriff, but at the end of the day, this tough guys heart has long been captured by his twin daughters. Having to move back home with his family to be a single dad to his girls was the last thing he ever thought would happen. He is grateful to have his mom, 2 sisters, uncles and more to pick up the slack of helping to care for Samantha and Sierra. He never wants to fall in love again, and isn’t that just what happens.

With a back story for Lanie that comes out piece by piece and secondary characters to help push it along, this story was really well told. My only gripe about this entire book was the abrupt ending. I don’t know if it was due to reading on an ereader that it felt more abrupt but it stopped and I was feeling like I missed some pages. As I said above I loved the anxiety quotes on each page, how many of us have those same thoughts on a daily or weekly basis. I loved how this family came together and stayed together through thick and thin. Being sarcastic myself, I enjoyed Mia’s sarcastic humor most of all. Even Uncle Jack, though sometimes behaving like a overgrown frat boy, had insightful wisdom to share with anyone who asked (or even those who didn’t).

Overall this story was well written for each character both main or secondary. I enjoyed following along on their journey of escape, attraction, hiding, and eventually not fighting the feelings. I received an advance copy of this novel without any expectations for review. Any and all opinions expressed are my own (whether you like them or not ha).

Her Double Desire by Nora Flite ARC review

Her Double DesireHer Double Desire by Nora Flite

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Her Double Desire by Nora Flite is a fast moving MFM romance, but not too fast that you feel rushed through this story.

Veronica has had enough of her job and her pain in the butt boss. She goes out with her friend/coworker to have a good night on the town and maybe get up the nerve to quit her job before her boss fires her tomorrow for no good reason. She drinks a little too much while out and wakes up in a fancy stone house with a huge tattoo on her neck and two gorgeous guys saying they bought her. What exactly happened last night?

Jared is too old for this craziness, how did he get himself involved in buying women for his boss? This lifestyle is not for him but after meeting Veronica he starts to change his mind. He is afraid of what Shawn will think.

Shawn loves the lifestyle of domination and freedom to be with whomever he wants. Until he gets a eyeful of Veronica, she would make any man change his ways. He and Jared have 2 weeks to make this novice perform like a professional for his boss to be satisfied, but can he make sure he doesn’t want her all for himself.

Veronica quickly realizes what world she has fallen into and thinks she could be able to handle this lifestyle. She takes training from Jared and Shawn and at the end of their 2 weeks together, finds herself in quite a dilemma of wanting them both for herself. How can she possibly go with their boss now?

This book is a very quick read (at least for me) but not lacking and that kept me turning the page straight though. I enjoyed the interaction the characters had and how each man found what he was looking for in Veronica. I have read Nora Flite previously and this was as enjoyable as her other books. I received a copy in advance without expectation for review. All opinions expressed are my own. A solid 4 out of 5 from this reader.

On the Edge by Rebecca Sharp ARC review

On the Edge (Winter Games, #2)On the Edge by Rebecca Sharp

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

High 3.75 low 4 for this reader. On the Edge by Rebecca Sharp is book #2 in the Winter Games Series. In all honesty I did not read book #1 Up In The Air (Channing and Wyatt’s book) and I really wish I would have read that book before reading book #2. For my brain to function (somewhat) in book world I like to read things in continuity order. I have no idea if all books are written in the way On the Edge was written but I felt like I was dropped into the book mid story.

Ally is the younger sister of twin siblings Channing and Chase. Ally moved from the snowy mountains to the sunny beach and after a devastating life altering event is moving back to the mountains. Her siblings are super excited to have her back, but she is still deciding whether she is excited to be back home. She is dealing with pain and a very unwanted attraction to Emmett. She hates him and wants him just as much.

Emmett is the “King” of the mountain. He appoints himself personal guardian of Ally. He may be labeled a Snowmasshole, but he will do whatever it takes to keep Ally safe and happy. Even if that means being absolutely miserable himself, he wants Ally bad but knows he is bad for her. He doesn’t do the “F” word, Forever isn’t in his future.

As I said above, I felt like I dropped into this story mid thought. It bounced around a lot and I can say I was confused more than once. Especially with the nicknames they kept using with one another. Each main character referenced Halloween and I thought I missed the storyline from the 1st book but it came into play well into the book (finally).
This story had great bones, I felt like it went on a little too much at times, repeating scenarios over and over again. I wish we would’ve gotten to know Ruth and Miriam a little better. I assume we will dive into Chase and Jessa in the next book but it was a good tease getting to know them as well. I received this book as an advance copy without expectation for review. All opinions expressed above are my own.
