Falling for Him by Khardine Gray ARC review

Falling for Him by Khardine Gray is a novel about 2 best friends for almost 20 years Zoe and Tristan. They were pushed together in high school when Tristan, star football star, needed some academic help and Zoe was assigned to be his tutor. They became fast friends and nineteen years later they are still best friends living together.

Zoe thinks Tristan is a man-whore to the nth degree for most of the years she’s known him. She’s no angel but tries to steer more toward the safe man, one totally opposite her father. She has been dating a man for the past 2 years until his wife shows up at her school and calls her a homewrecker. “Homewrecker” is the one thing she never, ever wanted to become in her life.

Tristan is a mover and player and loves the ladies. He knows through it all though Zoe will be right there by his side. She is his best friends and would do anything for her. When he finds out her latest boyfriend was using her he takes it upon himself to set him straight. No one hurts his Zoe and gets away with it.

Each year they open up their friendship box and pull out an envelope they’ve written and placed inside when they were younger. Each envelope has a task, trip or fun suggestion they HAVE to do with each other. This year’s envelope sends them both reeling. Will they be able to do what the envelope suggests and what consequences will it have on their relationship.

Falling for Him is the 2nd novel I’ve read by Khardine Gray. I enjoy her novels but what stops me from giving a 5/5 most times is the writing style she uses. I am not a fan of the 1st Person POV. It makes it really hard to follow along sometimes and I just don’t feel as connected with the characters and the situations to fully get immersed in the novel. I received a copy of this novel from the author to review, all opinions are my own.

Mister Cowboy by Rebecca Jenshak ARC review

Mister CowboyMister Cowboy by Rebecca Jenshak

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Mister Cowboy by Rebecca Jenshak is a wonderful first read for me by this author. I am now faced with the task of looking up her other novels and reading more and more.

January Lyle is having a craptastic birthday. She is trying to go out with her best friend Michael to celebrate but he is working late at his bar taking care of a big work party that scheduled for the same night. Sitting and stewing she strikes up a conversation with a handsome stranger and promptly insults him not knowing his true identity.

Brecken Blackstone is the head of Blackstone Software, he is hosting an office party to raise moral before hitting his employees with tons of overtime. He strikes up a conversation with a beautiful woman sitting at the bar and is intrigued.

January is smitten with the handsome stranger but heads home only to be almost hit by a car crossing the street (while looking at her phone). Surprise it is her handsome stranger behind the wheel. Is this something beyond her control?

Brecken is hiding from his past, a past he walked away from years ago and hasn’t looked back. He needs to figure out a way to get it out of his head, forever, and January is the way to make that happen. He hires her to clean out and organize his family home getting it ready for sale. He finds himself being drawn to January more and more everyday and can’t quite figure out what exactly it all means.

January is falling fast for this suit wearing, sweet talking, extravagant gift giving hottie.
She knows better than to get involved with her boss but he just won’t take no for an answer. Could Brecken be the man of her dreams?

There is the standard conflict, a woman who doesn’t let go easily, misunderstood parents and siblings and loyal BFFs.

I really enjoyed this novel and am anxious to read more by the author. She wove a story so well involving multiple people in the storyline without making it feel overwhelming or keeping up with too many characters. I laughed out loud at many points, especially when Mr Cowboy makes an appearance with some colorful language. I received this advance copy from the author via a raffle and I couldn’t be more excited now having read it.

Can't take my eyes off you (summer lake #2) review

Can't Take My Eyes Off of You (Summer Lake, #2)Can't Take My Eyes Off of You by Bella Andre

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Can’t Take My Eyes Off You (*reprint see below) is the second book in the Summer Lake spinoff of the Sullivan series by Bella Andre. I’ve had this book on my kindle for a while but just got around to finishing it. I have been a fan of Bella Andre for a few years but this novel (as with book 1) left me wondering if it was the same author.

The main characters are Christie Hayden and Liam Kane. Christie we’ve met in a few previous books and Liam is the brother of Wesley Kane (Christie’s fiancĂ©) who’s been mentioned in a few previous books as well.

Christie Hayden came to Summer Lake with her boyfriend now fiancĂ© Wes to help run the Summer Lake Inn that he owned. 3 weeks before this novel starts Wes and Christie decide they aren’t meant to be married and agree to remain friends. Wes leaves Summer Lake unexpectedly and leaves Christie to face their family and friends alone. Until Liam arrives for the now canceled wedding and turns her world upside down.

Liam Kane has made it a mission to stay away from Summer Lake for the past 20 years. Ever since that fateful night his life changed forever. He walks into the inn for his brothers wedding rehearsal and is knocked off his feet by a gorgeous woman in tears. He quickly comes to find it is his little brother’s ex-fiance and tries to push back his feelings.

With all the secrets the Kane family is hiding, will Liam and Christie be able to make it work?

After reading all the Sullivan series books, this Summer Lake spin off (Book 1 and 2) both felt removed from the writing style of Bella Andre I've come to know and love. After a little investigation I found that this is actually a reprint (and slight rewrite) of a book written by Bella Andre as Bella Riley titled With This Kiss (Emerald Lake #2). Without having read either Emerald Lake novels I feel like this explains why I felt so disconnected with this book. Although I liked it overall I felt it didn’t pull me in totally like all the other Sullivan books had. The writing style was definitely different for me with flashbacks and abrupt story line changes that left me scratching my head at times.
