Bossing the Virgin by Suzanne Hart ARC review

Bossing the VirginBossing the Virgin by Suzanne Hart

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Bossing the Virgin by Suzanne Hart is the first novel I’ve read by this author. I really enjoyed the authors writing style and will look into other novels she’s written. Bossing the Virgin received 4 ¼ stars from me.

Nora was raised by her grandfather after losing her parents in an accident when she was 12, she lived and worked with him up until he died. She stayed alone working in their store because that is what she thought he’d like. She realized one day she needed to do something for herself and decided to make a fresh start. She packed up her belongings, closed up the store and left Minnesota. She had no money and no place to stay when she met Kate. She got a job working at a hotel, even with no hotel experience she was determined to make herself the best employee the hotel had ever seen. On her first day a little girl got on the elevator alone and Nora’s life was permanently changed.

Felix is a widower raising his 6 year old daughter Cecilia (CiCi). He doesn’t quite understand how to raise his daughter alone so he has done his best to make sure he surrounded her with loving caretakers while he spends his days and nights on the road. He has to take her to work at the hotel with him because the nanny calls in sick. She gets on the elevator without him and since no one knows her well she doesn’t make it back to Felix quickly enough. Will Felix find her before something happens to her?

Cici and Nora form a fast bond and the little girl is drawn to Nora. Felix does his best to ignore his growing feelings for Nora, focusing on the employer/employee relationship but he can’t stay away. After a standard misunderstanding, a meddling mother and trip to Hawaii, this couple works their best toward their HEA.

I enjoyed this novel and the relationships Nora formed/forms in her life. She is awkward, self-conscious and doubting, all real life struggles that affect us all. Felix was a pretty standard bratty millionaire but thankfully he redeems himself quickly to prove love is better than money. I received an advance copy of Bossing the Virgin without expectation for review. All opinions expressed above are my own.

The CEO's Lucky Charm by Stella Marie Alden ARC review

The CEO's Lucky CharmThe CEO's Lucky Charm by Stella Marie Alden

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The CEO’s Lucky Charm by Stella Marie Alden is a continuation of her previous novel The CEO’s Valentine. Main characters are Isabella Harte, Grayson Patten and Xavier Cross. This is an extremely fast moving novel just as was the previous story so if you haven’t read Valentine first I would read it first just to be able to keep up.

Isabella Harte works for Grayson Patten and they fall in love in The CEO’s Valentine. Xavier Cross is Isabella’s boss and has embezzled money from the company. In Valentine he tries to kill Isabella and Grayson and disappear with the money. In Lucky Charm he is back and blackmailing Isabella into taking the fall for the stolen money.

Lucky Charm is the 2nd book I’ve read by Stella Marie Alden and both really failed to grab my attention in a good way. Lucky Charm was written in a very fast paced style (as Valentine was) and just ended the main story ¾ of the way through. I had to go back and check if I’d missed something along the way but the story just jumped to the HEA without resolution.

I did enjoy the family interaction when Isabella and Grayson (along with Slate who deserves his own story if he hasn’t had one already) headed to her hometown and met with her extended family. I also enjoyed the interaction between Slate and Grayson in both novels.

Not having read any other books by this author I don’t know if this is the standard format for her writing or if it is just for this series, either way I’m confused and left unsatisfied. I know I am not going to like every single author or novel but it really hurts to write a review reflecting that. I received an advance ebook without expectations for review, all opinions expressed are my own. If interested, please see my other review for The CEO’s Valentine.

Black Velvet by Linnea May ARC review

Black VelvetBlack Velvet by Linnea May

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Black Velvet by Linnea May is a first novel for me by this author. Overall I enjoyed the novel but it didn’t grab me totally. While the novel talks briefly about BDSM it doesn’t go much into that lifestyle. From what I thought it would involve after reading the title I can honestly say it was pretty tame reading.

Elene is a paid escort who is looking to change up her life. She is tired of the same old, same old club atmosphere. She goes in to give her resignation to her boss and is presented with a perfect opportunity to possibly get everything she is looking for.

Damon is a man with tons of money and time to play. He is an investor in a club that is looking to expand into other genres and he goes to talk numbers with the boss only to see a mysterious woman leaving the office. He can’t stop thinking about the mystery woman and goes to opening night to see if she is there.

Elene makes a choice to switch gears in her lifestyle, staying on as just a talking, and no touch companion at the club. She knows she can shut off her brain to be with a man but just talking makes her nervous. Until she sees the mysterious stranger walking toward her.

Elene and Damon are both hiding behind self imposed walls, both awkward at normal 1st dates but give it a go while at the club. But when Elene makes a choice to have a chance with Damon, he is shocked by her decision but goes with it to be with the woman that has encompassed his every thought for weeks. Can they both get outside their comfort zones to give a relationship a real chance?

I enjoyed this novel overall but felt like it started to sag a little in the middle. I probably would have enjoyed it more if it kept up at a steady storytelling pace vs slowing up. I received this advance copy without expectations for reviewing; all opinions expressed are my own. I would definitely give another novel by Linnea May a read in the future.

The Good Luck Sister by Jill Shalvis ARC review

The Good Luck Sister (Wildstone, #1.5)The Good Luck Sister by Jill Shalvis

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Good Luck Sister is a follow up novella to characters from Lost and Found Sisters. Jill Shalvis does it again with another great read, albeit too short for me but just as amazing as a full length novel.

The Good Luck Sister stars Tilly Adams and Dylan Scott, from Lost and Found Sisters, but 10 years later. We get to see how they’ve grown, what they’ve accomplished in their lives and if it turns out the way they expected it to work out.

Tilly is an art instructor at a local college. Her first day at this new position has her foster failure Leo pretending to be sick, after a trip to the vet and a suggestion to bring him along finds her walking into her classroom to see the one face she never thought she’d see again. Front and center sat Dylan Scott staring back at her.

Dylan did not have a great childhood, his father was abusive toward his mother and when he got old enough he deflected the beatings onto him to keep his mother safe. He knew he needed to get out of town and joined the military. He didn’t say goodbye to Tilly because he knew she would follow him anywhere. Dylan suddenly thought signing up for Tilly’s class without warning her could have been a grossly bad move. She doesn’t look at all happy to see him but he is so glad he did, she is as beautiful as the day he left.

Tilly loved Dylan as any teenager could love another person. She was devastated to learn he left town suddenly to join the military. She went on to college and came back home to teach this art class at the local college only to be taken back in 8 years. What was he doing here?

Tilly and Dylan are entertaining characters that obviously still care for each other deeply. After realizing they both had some bad misconceptions about their past they work toward a future together. And little Leo deserves high paw for his comedic appearance in this novella. I received this copy in advance but with no expectations, all opinions expressed are my own. I really enjoyed this novella can’t wait to see what is next to come down the line from Jill Shalvis.

Heated by Krista Carleson ARC review

Heated is the first novel I’ve read by Krista Carleson. It is a quick read but I didn’t feel like much was left out or missing from the novel. It had really good potential to be an even longer read but flowed nicely. The writing style is a little closer to what I am used to but after reading a few books by this author so far I’ve found she writes solely in FPOV. It flows nicely but I find myself missing the thoughts held within each individual characters. Those deep thoughts we always get in our romcoms haha.

Claire Matthews loves being a therapist. She is living her dream of owning her own business with her 2 best friends, leasing her office space in a great old building and helping clients with their anger issues. That is until Jared Holmes walks into her office.

Jared Holmes needs anger management badly, or so he’s been told. He is a real estate developer that has been extra snappy lately with mostly everyone he has come into contact with. He has to find a way to channel his energy and Claire looks like she could help.

They met on a blind date, which Claire was supposed to be meeting someone else, and slowly get to know one another. Can she see past his anger issues and get to know the real Jared.

Being one side to the Female POV we don’t really get to dive too deeply into why Jared is how he is. I really missed that introspective that is usually found in the novels I read. For that reason I feel like I really didn’t to know him as well as I could have. I reviewed this advance copy without expectations; all thoughts expressed are my own. Overall a good read and I have already read some other books by this author.
