Off Limits by Jules BarnardMy rating: 3 of 5 stars
Cali and Jaeger knew each other years ago but lost touch. Jaeger was friends with her older brother Tyler. When she ends up working at a casino in Tahoe to save for law school she runs into him again. Thinking he’d make a great date for her friend Gen, she starts matchmaking. Slowing realizing she is still attracted to him from long ago. Staying committed to her dying relationship she heads back to school to find out where she stands with her BF. He dumps her on the spot. She finally feels free to pursue Jaeger and wherever that leads her.
A wild ride of jealous exes, harassing executives, fake babies, restraining orders and overdoses left me more than a little confused and overwhelmed. This first read by this author had me all over the place. There were multiple characters mentioned, secondary characters that had minimal plot points but figured heavily into main plots. I just felt like this story, while having incredible potential, jumped around too much to keep it all straight. Being written in 1st person is not a favorite of mine but even that wasn’t my biggest complaint with this read. Also having names you want to pronounce one way but then it’s given another way messes with my head. Unfortunately I can only give a 3 star and that is only because I saw the potential with the storyline.
